Raisins (Hindi: kishmish) are dried grapes. Bulk buyers usually specify colour/type, size grade, moisture, packing and whether the lot is intended for retail packs, bakery, mithai or export.
Main types VISAVA supplies
- Green raisins — pale green to light amber; popular in Indian sweets and everyday kitchen use.
- Golden raisins — warm yellow–gold colour; often preferred for visible bakery and trail-mix applications.
- Black raisins — deep purple–black; common in namkeen mixes, baking and traditional recipes.

What to check in a bulk lot
- Colour uniformity — mixed shades can be fine for processing but matter for premium retail.
- Size & plumpness — shrivelled or very small berries may signal older stock or harsh drying.
- Moisture feel — raisins should be soft but not sticky-wet; excess moisture risks clumping and spoilage.
- Foreign matter — stems, grit, damaged berries.
- Odour & taste — clean grape sweetness; reject fermented or musty notes.
- Packing — food-grade retail pouches vs cartons for wholesale; ask for export packing if shipping abroad.
Storage tips for traders
Keep cartons cool, dry and away from strong-smelling goods. Rotate stock (first in, first out). Once opened, use airtight containers. Follow best-before dating on finished packs.
